All electrolytic capacitors replaced.
The SL-5200 was produced in 1978 and it features the same tone-arm bearing design as the highly regarded but much more expensive SL-1200 series. It features either quartz lock or a pitch wheel for speed control (weird but very cool). The stylus light is actually very useful and VERY bright. I consider these tables to be the educated budget minded pick instead of the 1200 MK2 models. I baby these models when I receive them and make sure they are 100%. I reflow several solder joints to ensure perfect functionality as well as completing my usual restoration process. The 5300 is the full auto version of the 5200 ($400).
These are plug and play ready tables which has been completely gone through and bench tested. All of the vital bushings and components have received fresh lube and the table operates at 100%. YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY WITH THESE TABLES!!
I've been restoring Technics turntables for just under ten years, with almost 1000 tables sold in that time. The reason I started this hobby was because I wanted people to realize how good records can sound with a quality turntable. New LP's aren't cheap, please don't spend more on a new album than you do on a turntable, you'll just end up regretting the purchase. I do work out of my house, but obviously this keeps my overhead incredibly low. I stand behind what I sell and would listen to any of my albums on the tables I have for sale. When you purchase a table from me I will answer any of your questions and explain the table to you in detail. I would estimate that customers are at my house anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes on average. I want you to feel comfortable with your purchase.
Here is a quick summary of the maintenance and restoration process for each turntable.
* All electrolytic capacitors replaced with quality components. Film capacitors or used in some instances for better performance.
* Speed selector switch and both internal and external speed potentiometers deoxed with DN5
* Tonearm bearings checked, lubed, and adjusted if necessary.
* RCA cable ends and tonearm to headshell connection points polished for superior connectivity. If the RCA cables are in bad condition I will replace them with gold plated units.
* Spindle lubed with the appropriate light weight oil.
* Internal auto function levers, bushings, etc., relubed. This procedure varies the most from model to model.
* All solder connections checked for cold joints.
* Dustcover hinges tightened.
* Cue damping fluid checked for proper viscosity and drop down rate. Replaced if necessary.
* Turntable is cleaned and the dustcover is polished.
* Lastly the table is thoroughly tested for proper performance.
Check out our local record stores. Horizon, Pharmacy and Cabin Floor have a great bunch of people working there.
