Due to aforementioned tuning/intonation/scale issues that come with these "shawties", I have set these up for mostly open-tuning (G), preferably with a bottleneck slide or steel bar. There are three different ones I've made, each with a little different configuration. I've labeled the first picture with letters so I can describe the differences:
A) The "Standard" - features a piezo disc paired unconventionally with a custom single-coil pickup made especially for us DIY cigar box guitar builders, each with their own independent volume control.
B) The "Fat" - has a humbucker in the bridge position for hotter output (this one REALLY screams as a lap steel), and also has a piezo disc hidden under the lid, each with their own volume control AND a master tone control.
C) The "Deluxe" - I used a Strat-style pickup in the neck position for this one for a more "vocal" or "throaty" sound, as well as a piezo disc hidden under the lid, each with their own volume control and a master tone control like the "Fat" model.
Depending on your need, with the right gauge of strings, these definitely could intonate a little better and make a great "high-tuned" guitar ("G" or "A" standard), or again, great as-is in open tunings for a slide work or as a CBG lap steel out of the box (pardon the pun), and they look cool doing it!!! All three come with gigbags for travel, and are ready to go. So pick your favorite and reach out, or grab all three together and I'll knock $50 off the total.
